Our Services

Reaching Out ...

We have a special focus on serving our Spanish-speaking neighbors.

Hospice of The Gorge has a unique program aimed at serving the special needs of the Spanish-speaking people in the communities we serve.

People with Mexican ancestry account for more than 25% of the year-round population in some of our service areas. We are pleased to say that our Spanish-speaking teams are available to help.

Some of the team membersHow We Help

Our program to serve the Hispanic community includes a special care team made up of physicians, nurses, chaplains and social workers.

In addition, we have a special educational effort aimed at educating our Spanish-speaking neighbors about the services Hospice of The Gorge offers. The effort revolves around our team of promotores (respected members of the Spanish community) who speak to individuals and groups about the services we offer.

The promotores regularly go out to meet people in their homes, and they give presentations at festivals and local churches.

Our aim in doing this is to communicate the good news about hospice, and to ensure that no Spanish-speaking person is unable to access our services when needed.

Hispanic Language Brochure CoverOur Spanish Language Materials

Our Spanish-speaking team works directly with patients and families in their homes, so there's no need for outside translators.

We've also translated the core materials we use in the delivery of our care, so that if they want to, our Spanish-speaking patients and families can take the time to read the materials for themselves.

But It's More than
Language Alone

Our program to serve people of Mexican ancestry is more than an effort to provide translation services. Members of the team not only speak Spanish, they are also well-acquainted with the cultural norms of our Spanish-speaking residents.

Our goal is not just to deliver care, but to deliver it in a way that honors the rich cultural traditions, beliefs and values of our Mexican-American friends and neighbors.
